Plainwell Arts Council and Ransom Library Team Up to Offer Taste of the Arts
Thursdays starting June 17
The Plainwell Arts Council and Ransom Library are joining together to offer this summer's FREE Taste of the Arts program, thanks to a generous grant from the Pipp Foundation. Instructors will teach a variety of single-session classes for children age 8-up in a variety of mediums. Look for class information and registration forms in the library summer reading bulletin, or you may read/print them by using the links below.

Story Time
Wednesdays at 10:30
 
 
Come to the library for this popular program that gives moms a chance to socialize while kids listend to stories, sing songs, and engage in imaginative play.
Story Time will continue to take place every Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. It includes music, rhymes, movement activities and a craft.
 

Video Game Swap
August 23 @ 3:00 p.m. Registration required

Eliminate the end of summer blahs with some new game action!

Sign up for our swap meet today! You can register with us by phone or in person; all we need to know is your name, which game system(s) you use, and how many games you will bring to trade. At the event we will match you up with other people who use the same system and you can make your trades. If this program is well-attended we will make it a regular event!


Surviving Middle School: A Crash Course
August 19, 26, & September 2 @ 6:30 p.m. Registration Required.
Starting middle school this year? Take our crash course and arm yourself with the tricks and tips you’ll need to successfully navigate the social and academic challenges of this new phase of your education. Sign up for all three—you won’t regret it!
 

Interpersonal Relations: Aug. 19

In elementary school there are about 75 kids in your grade. In middle school, that jumps to 225! How do you make new friends? How can you tell who to trust? What do you do about members of the opposite sex who are all of a sudden interested in you (and you’re interested in them!)? Our panel of middle school and high school students will share their experiences and talk about how you can make friendships flourish in this strange new world.
 

I Have How Many Classes?! Staying Organized From 1st Hour Until June: Aug. 26

There are many methods for staying organized, and each person needs to find his/her own. However, a California guidance counselor has developed a simple method that may be just right for you. Learn what it is and how it works in this session.
 

Facebook Perks and Pitfalls: Sept. 2

Find out when you can legitimately get a Facebook account, how to check your settings, and why it can be a great tool and a vicious enemy.  This will be informative for parents, too!
 

MelCat for Home School Families

The Michigan Electronic Library Catalog (MelCat) is a wonderful tool, allowing home school families to access materials from all over the state. Sign up to learn more about how to use this valuable resource to your advantage. Basic knowledge of internet navigation is helpful. Limit 8 participants (on the 8 library computers.)

American Sign Language (ASL)
September 22 @ 10:30 a.m. & September 27 @ 6 p.m.
Learn signs for your favorite animals!
 
ASL Advocates, a non-profit organization, is helping to promote awareness of American Sign Language and deaf culture. During this program, children will be introduced to sign language and learn several animal signs. The children will then use the signs with ASL Advocates to sing "Old McDonald", play a matching game with animal pictures, and a game of animal bingo. There will also be handouts to take home!
